On April 28, 1925, the International Exhibition of Decorative and Industrial Arts opened. which, through 150 pavilions located in the heart of Paris, marks the triumph of the Art Deco style developed from the 1910s. A symbol of modernity, this new decorative order, which is characterized by the geometrization of lines, the simplification of forms and the use of stylized motifs, is a total art that concerns architecture, sculpture, furniture and decor.

Art Deco in Le Havre

Le Havre did not escape the craze of the Roaring Twenties for this new aesthetic which, between 1919 and 1939, marked monuments as well as buildings, pavilions, shops and cinemas.

One hundred years later, the exhibition presented at the Maison du patrimoine offers an overview of the most remarkable local achievements based on the recent publication by Christine d'Aboville and Patrick Bertrand entitled L'Art déco au Havre et ses environs (OREP éditions, 2024). Their work reveals, despite the destruction of the Second World War, the quality and diversity of the Art Deco heritage in the area that the exhibition and the many events scheduled until the summer will help you rediscover in all the districts.

Ex-voto, figures of care

Temporary exhibition presented from March 8 to August 31, 2025.

This project deploys, in two separate exhibitions, first at the Duchamp gallery in Yvetot and then at the Pêcheries, museum in Fécamp, a montage of objects and images related to acts of healing, either through care or through creation: drawings, films, sculptures, objects, etc.

It is from life experiences in the restricted perimeter of the Pays de Caux, where Vincent Barré and Pierre Creton live and collaborate with Cyril Neyrat, and from the Norman heritage that this work and research are envisaged. It is on this rooting – this motif – that the artists rely to approach the memory of the inhabitants, the sailors, the peasants.

A multidisciplinary, anthropological and artistic approach relating to the territory of the Pays de Caux will be presented based on the museum's collections, ex-votos and the question of care, real or symbolic.
The exhibition catalogue, published by Octopus , brings together a series of texts that highlight ex-voto in their historical and artistic dimension. These essays question the different meanings of the ex-voto, across centuries and continents, in a material, philosophical and anthropological approach.

Exhibition in Fécamp: “Vikings: On board the first Fécamp factory trawler”

As part of the Saint-Pierre des Marins, photographic exhibition from the municipal archives offered from February 1 to March 2, 2025.

On May 29, 1965, a new revolutionary trawler entered the port. It was the Vikings III , the first factory trawler, stern fishing, integral freezer armed in Fécamp.

The dimensions of this new vessel are impressive: 80 metres long, 12.50 metres wide, 5 metres draft, diesel-electric propulsion with a power of 2100 horsepower, allowing a speed of 15 knots.

The crew of 55 men sees its professional framework evolve, the work of the fish is now carried out in the factory located in the heart of the ship using BAADER machines. If the working conditions on board are clearly improved, some struggle to evolve in a boat where they no longer see the ocean. It is this paradox that we invite you to come and discover during this photographic exhibition.

"... The consumption of salted cod in France is tending to decline, so these difficulties are increasingly encouraging us to develop the reconversion of our industry with a view to offering consumers frozen fish. We therefore created at the beginning of this year the "Société des Produits Servifrais" which took over from the commercial organization that your Company had set up two years ago. Soon, we will reach the end of our studies of a modern trawler with freezing on board. We will thus be able to... add to our business, that of our frozen products."

Ordinary General Meeting of the ""Pêcheries de Fécamp"" – July 6, 1963 (AMF – PW 906).
